Baby Carson has arrived!

We have a March baby! Carson was born on March 9th at 4:53pm. We knew I wouldn't make it to my due date. I had already been admitted in the hospital 3 times since 33 weeks to try and stop labor. Since they couldn't stop it my OB just wanted me to make it to 36 weeks (or longer) to try and avoid NICU time. I was put on medication at home and strict bedrest, but unfortunately that didn't do much good. I did make it to 36 weeks and 1 day but thats as much as my body could take. This was my last pregnancy photo before I went to the hospital. My OB expected him to weigh around 7-7 1/2 lbs..

I went into my normal OB appt on Monday and was having contractions every 5-6 minutes, and he could see the pain I was in. He told me to head straight to the hospital. By the time I went home and got Chad, Payton, and the bags and brought Payton to our friends house, my contractions were every 1-2 minutes. I got into L&D and they were off the charts. I was in excruciating pain. One thing I was really hoping to avoid this time (knowing I was having a repeat C section) was going into full labor again. But once again I had to go through hard labor for 8 hours with no medications and no progression. They started prepping me for surgery as soon as I got to the hospital but didn't have an OR open until 4pm. So at 4:53 our second sweet little boy was born. 8lbs 2oz 19 1/2 in long! The nurses laid him on the scale and asked my OB "Are you SURE you had her due date right?" haha. He was positive but still couldn't believe at 4 weeks early Carson was over 8lbs. Thanks to that Sims gene I guess I just have big babies haha.

Experiencing this C section was a little bit better than my last. This time Chad got to cut the umbilical cord, And Chad and Carson got to come to the recovery room with me. With Payton he had already stopped breathing by the time he was being cleaned off and was taken to NICU. It was so amazing to get to hold Carson as soon as he was born. That is probably something a lot of moms don't think twice about (because its expected) but when you have your first that you don't get to hold for over 3 days after birth, it makes it so much more special to have this opportunity this time. But it was short lived and after only 45 minutes they could hear Carson's breathing become a little more "gurgled." The took him to examine him and noticed he was having desats pretty regularly. They then took him to the NICU to have oxygen. It was so hard for Chad and I to hear those words again and watch him be taken away. We really tried to be prepared for it with Payton being a NICU baby and him being preterm but nothing will prepare you for having your baby taken from you because he is sick. Luckily that night around 11pm the nurse came in and told me that if I could manage getting out of bed she would help me get down to the NICU. (Normally after a C sec you aren't supposed to get out of bed for 24 hours) So I did get to go see little man from the start. I stayed 4 days in the NICU around the clock with him, until the day came for me to be discharged. This is another thing that is just never easy to do. Everyone says they understand it must be hard. But I don't think anyone will understand until they have to go through it. Its a pain that I could never describe. But I knew I had Payton to get home to and try and get back on our daily routine. Chad and I were SO fortunate to have his mom come out and take care of Payton for that first week. I really don't know what we would have done without her. It would have been impossible to get to and from the NICU if it wasn't for her being here. Luckily about 4 days after Carson was admitted into the NICU they found the cause of his breathing problems. I had developed Group Strep B while pregnant and it transferred to him during delivery giving him pneumonia. A simple 7 day round of antibiotics fixed his problem and he was able to come home!!

Payton was so excited to meet his brother.. He couldnt stop smiling all day. He is the BEST big brother Carson could have. We are so blessed with two great boys!

Chad definetly has his hands full with these two! My love for him grows so much watching him be an amazing dad to these boys. I couldn't have asked for a better husband.

Carson is such a great baby and such an amazing addition to our family! I can't believe he is already a month old!! I just love watching him grow and learn!
